General Dentistry

dental checkup

Prevention is better than cure. It is recommended that you attend regular check-ups and clean visits with our gentle and caring dentists.

Check-up and cleaning are crucial because they prevent tooth decay and gum problem, or at least tackle them at an early stage. Tooth decay and gum problems at the start usually remain undetected by the patient because they experience none or mild symptoms. If neglected, they can cause bigger issues such as toothache, tooth infection, broken tooth, loose tooth, or even tooth loss. Therefore, regular check-up and clean is important to help to avoid the cost of root canal treatment, extraction and teeth replacement when oral diseases become more complicated.

Children’s Dentistry

children dentist

Research shows that children have the highest risk of developing dental decay, which if not treated, causes pain, potential infection and abnormal development of permanent teeth.

More importantly, loss of baby teeth due to dental decay will cause a lack of space for permanent teeth therefore significantly increasing the risk of crowded permanent teeth and the requirement for braces.

We encourage children from the ages of two to three to have their first dental visit. Starting from an early age encourages good oral hygiene and reduces the fears of seeing a dentist. It is important to tell your children that a visit to the dentist is nothing to be afraid of. We have the latest technology and technique to make your child’s first dental visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that focuses on correcting issues that affect the alignment of your teeth and jaws. Burwood East Dental Care provides an extensive range of orthodontic services including early interceptive orthodontics, Damon fixed braces or clear aligners.

Generally, for kids with bite issues (overbite, underbite, deep bite etc.), the treatment will be much easier if we start early.

The early orthodontic treatment, before the loss of all baby teeth, is called interceptive orthodontic treatment and it focuses on correcting poorly coordinated bites, which usually requires jaw surgery or at least teeth taken out during adolescent orthodontic treatment if left untreated at a younger age. To be safe, the first orthodontic consultation should be before the age of seven to nine to identify any unbalanced bite or jaw discrepancy. If the bite is satisfactory, the orthodontic treatment can start after a patient gets their full set of adult teeth, usually at age of 11-12.

Invisalign dentist

For adults who are interested in orthodontic treatment, we will diagnose any orthodontic problems before advising you on the best type of appliance for your needs. We are able to provide a number of different appliances and modern orthodontic technology which are far more discreet and effective, resulting in shorter treatment times and more comfort for the patients.

Crown and Bridge

dental crown

A dental crown or “cap” is the ideal option to restore a structurally compromised tooth to achieve the ultimate strength, aesthetics and chewing function. Dental crowns are also used to restore a tooth when there isn’t enough of the tooth remaining to provide support for a large filling, attach a bridge, protect weak teeth from fracturing, restore fractured teeth or cover badly shaped or discoloured teeth. At Burwood East Dental Care, we guarantee that all our crowns are made locally in Melbourne with best possible material.

Dental bridge is used to replace missing teeth by connecting the two crowns made on the two teeth at the either side of the gap with a false tooth in the middle. It has long history and tracking records of replacing missing tooth with good aesthetics and full function recovery. The alternative of replacing missing tooth is dental implant.

Dental Implants

Missing teeth can impact your confidence and oral health. For patients with just a single missing tooth, or several missing teeth in different parts of the jaw, implants are a cost-effective, aesthetically pleasing treatment option.

dental implant

Each new tooth is supported by its own titanium implant and firmly intergrated into the bone and natural in colour.

We have a great deal of experience with the surgical placement and restoration of single or multiple implants and would be happy to let you know if this is a suitable option for your needs.

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal is used to save teeth that would otherwise need to be removed. It is needed when the pulp in the tooth becomes infected, this can be caused as a result of decay, cracks, or injuries.

The pulp is the central part of the tooth that supplies the blood and nerve flow, when bacteria are able to penetrate the pulp, an infection can result. This can cause acute throbbing pain that can keep you awake at night and stop you from getting through your day. Alternatively, a chronic infection often displays no painful characteristics and is often only identified by an X-ray.

Root canal treatment involves removing the infected pulp from the tooth and replacing it with a filling, it requires substantial skill, technical ability and patience. Preserving your natural teeth is the one most important step in oral health, root canal treatment allows you to keep your own natural tooth in instances when it would otherwise have to be removed.

Dentures

When you lose your teeth, one of the options for replacement of missing teeth is a denture. Dentures can help to improve appearance and function. The denture teeth are made to closely resemble your natural teeth. Being removable, it can be taken out to clean to remove food debris.

A denture may be either conventional or immediate. A conventional type is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, usually taking 6 to 8 weeks. During this period of 6 to 8 weeks, the patient will have to go without teeth.

Immediate dentures are made prior to removing the teeth, in particular front teeth, and immediately placed after the teeth are taken out, thus patient does not have to go without teeth during the healing process.

Teeth Whitening

emergency dentist

Teeth can discolour due to lifestyle choices, such as drinking tea, coffee, red wine and smoking or through taking certain medications or due to an injury to a tooth. Teeth frequently darken with age as organic pigments gradually penetrate the outer layer of protective enamel.

When it comes to teeth whitening, your dentist is your best source. Burwood East Dental Care uses high quality professional whitening systems such as Philips Zoom In-Office Teeth Whitening and Pola Day Take Home Whitening. These whitening systems are effective and safe to get you to your whitest smile in the most comfortable, easiest and quickest way possible. We can discuss the most suitable option for your needs during an initial consultation.

The most common reason for toothache is an infection of the tooth nerve. Other reasons can include wisdom tooth pain, jaw muscle pain, and gum infection.

The tooth nerve infection can be caused by dental decay, dental trauma, tooth crack and deep filling. Root canal therapy will resolve the infection of the root canal system and prevent the tooth get re-infected with a dental abscess.
